ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 Are Changing

Big updates are on the horizon for two of the world’s most important management system standards.

ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 9001 (Quality Management) were both amended in 2024 to include climate change considerations  and full revisions of these standards are due to be published in 2026.

What’s New?

  • Climate risks must now be addressed in your context and stakeholder analysis, if you haven’t done this yet
  • The 2026 revisions will bring:
  • Enhanced focus on sustainability, digitalisation, and risk
  • Better integration with environment, societal, governance (ESG) and stakeholder expectations
  • Stronger alignment with the updated Annex SL structure

Key Dates

  • ISO 14001: New edition expected January 2026
  • ISO 9001: Revised version expected September 2026

What You Can Do Now:

  • Review your Clause 4.1 and 4.2 content for climate impact relevance
  • Run a gap analysis to see how future-ready your system is
  • Keep up to date with the release of the Final Draft Standards and make key responsibility-holders aware that changes are coming

Whether you're already certified or preparing to be, this is a chance to future-proof your management systems.

Let’s lead, not lag.
